2 more fighters for TMNT: Smash UP

The roster for the upcoming smash bros inspired TMNT Smash UP just got bigger. Hidden character spoilers ahead:

Leonardo
Donatello
Michelangelo
Raphael
Splinter
April
Shredder
Foot Soldier
Casey Jones
Utrominator
Raving Rabbid
Splinter Cell Rabbid

Wait, wha?

WAAAAAAAHHHHH!

Not sure how I feel about the rabbids being in the game. I would love playing as them but I hope that we get more TMNT characters. On the other hand fighting the Shredder with a rabbid could be a blast. I wonder if he'll have a hotdog for a weapon.

Tomorrow I'll list my guess for the remaining characters.

Looney Bay Review: Good Golly Miss Molly

For those who don't know, I write weekly puppet scripts for children's church. These are usually done at the last minute and things always seem to go haywire. I thought it would be fun to keep track of the scripts and see if today was a good day or day of doom.

Biblical Lesson: Adam and Eve and the Forbidden Fruit

Script: Officer Goodman announced that some fireworks were banned for being too dangerous. Joey and Petey were sad that Geo wasn't going to be here for this year's firework show. In the past Geo had several firework shows that always ended with Petey the dog being fired out of a canon. Geo showed up and announced the firework show was on. Joey went to pick up the fireworks. He bought some from Dr. Hootenanny and thought they were pretty boring. The devil soon approached him and sold him some of the forbidden fireworks. The firework show began and the grand finale approached. Geo fired Petey out of the canon and there was an explosion. Geo temporarily lost his hearing and his clothes. Joey vowed never to touch dangerous things again but then decided to go pet the neighbor's pit pull.

Thoughts: Fun script. Lots of excitement for the kids.

The big news this week was the big return of Geo, a puppet my brother Tim had previously done. John took over the role and did a great job.

Adlibs/Blunders: During the explosion, a piece of wood fell and almost killed our puppeteer Jonathan.

During the "explosion" the Geo puppet became stuck on top of the Rat Trap Hotel. Also the script didn't call for Geo's clothes to get blown off, that was all John's doing.

The puppets tend to have a mind of their own sometime. The script only called for Petey to get angry at Joey for the accident. But once the scene started I felt that Petey would be really, really upset that Joey had hurt Geo. Geo is Petey's owner after all. Petey dove over the set and actually attacked Joey. I felt it was totally in character so I just went with it. Not sure how it came across to the kids :/

Overall: Good day

The amazing time traveling blog

I'm trying to update the blog daily but its almost impossible when dealing with 2 little ones and daily life getting in the way. I have the blog posts in my head but I may not get to the computer on that day. Rest assured the post will appear eventually and posted the date I intended it tot (Example this sunday post was actually made on monday). Look it will involve time travel and magic but let me worry about that.
I'm going to change up the subject matter and post more about what is going on in my life. More about the children's church ministry that I have been involved with for the last 10 years. More about my kiddos and their wacky daily adventures. More about the Mrs. More about side projects and what not.

I'll still post about news and pop culture and what not but I'll mix it up a bit.

Next big video game movie announced

Video game movies can be hit or miss. You have the really good ones like Mortal Kombat, the okay ones like Resident Evil and Tomb Raider, and the really awful ones like Street Fighter and Super Mario Bros. So now hollywood has announced the next big video game movie and I'm sure it will win an oscar.

ASTEROIDS.
That's right someone at hollywood thinks it would be a good idea to make a movie based on the 1979 atari game where a triangle rocket shot rocks for all of eternity. Who would be so stupid?

Oh right Lorenzo di Bonaventura, producer of GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

My confidence in the project is now restored...

It's the end of the world! ANTS!

A single mega-colony of ants has colonised much of the world, scientists have discovered.

Argentine ants living in vast numbers across Europe, the US and Japan belong to the same inter-related colony, and will refuse to fight one another.

The colony may be the largest of its type ever known for any insect species, and could rival humans in the scale of its world domination.

What's more, people are unwittingly helping the mega-colony stick together.

Argentine ants (Linepithema humile) were once native to South America. But people have unintentionally introduced the ants to all continents except Antarctica.

These introduced Argentine ants are renowned for forming large colonies, and for becoming a significant pest, attacking native animals and crops.

In Europe, one vast colony of Argentine ants is thought to stretch for 6,000km (3,700 miles) along the Mediterranean coast, while another in the US, known as the "Californian large", extends over 900km (560 miles) along the coast of California. A third huge colony exists on the west coast of Japan.

While ants are usually highly territorial, those living within each super-colony are tolerant of one another, even if they live tens or hundreds of kilometres apart. Each super-colony, however, was thought to be quite distinct.

But it now appears that billions of Argentine ants around the world all actually belong to one single global mega-colony.

Researchers in Japan and Spain led by Eiriki Sunamura of the University of Tokyo found that Argentine ants living in Europe, Japan and California shared a strikingly similar chemical profile of hydrocarbons on their cuticles.

But further experiments revealed the true extent of the insects' global ambition.

The team selected wild ants from the main European super-colony, from another smaller one called the Catalonian super-colony which lives on the Iberian coast, the Californian super-colony and from the super-colony in west Japan, as well as another in Kobe, Japan.

They then matched up the ants in a series of one-on-one tests to see how aggressive individuals from different colonies would be to one another.

Ants from the smaller super-colonies were always aggressive to one another. So ants from the west coast of Japan fought their rivals from Kobe, while ants from the European super-colony didn't get on with those from the Iberian colony.

One big family

But whenever ants from the main European and Californian super-colonies and those from the largest colony in Japan came into contact, they acted as if they were old friends.

These ants rubbed antennae with one another and never became aggressive or tried to avoid one another.

In short, they acted as if they all belonged to the same colony, despite living on different continents separated by vast oceans.

The most plausible explanation is that ants from these three super-colonies are indeed family, and are all genetically related, say the researchers. When they come into contact, they recognise each other by the chemical composition of their cuticles.

"The enormous extent of this population is paralleled only by human society," the researchers write in the journal Insect Sociaux, in which they report their findings.

However, the irony is that it is us who likely created the ant mega-colony by initially transporting the insects around the world, and by continually introducing ants from the three continents to each other, ensuring the mega-colony continues to mingle.

"Humans created this great non-aggressive ant population," the researchers write.
